Warden wants to look good when we did at medical. We would watch them hands down they would sign the paper saying they received the dose they would take a drink and eat crackers afterward, they would be all about enforcement and then DOC directive came down there would be no way to prevent diversion so we did away with the waiting and the preventative measures. Once we had so many offenders on the MAT program we stopped monitoring them because it would be too much of a staffing burden. We don’t have the staff to babysit all these offenders who take MAT meds at medline, so instead the one officer who stands out at medline is the one who makes sure with a flashlight that the offender places the crushed powder under their tongue, is nursing checking with a flashlight? With the strips they’ll mush the strip around and push it up under the top of their teeth or mash it in the back of their mouth. We had so many offenders diverting that we did away with monitoring because DOC told us to stop because it wouldn’t make a difference either way.
